GEÇİT VILLAGE HASAN OĞUZ HOUSE

The residence is located in Geçit (Hamediye) village of Gercüş district of Batman province. Geçit village is located 30 km southeast of Batman city center and 13.75 km northwest of Gercüş district center.

The house, extending in the east-west direction, was built on the bedrock, with 2 floors and in stages. The ground floor is used both as a barn and as a living space, and has an entrance with an iwan (Picture 1). To the west of the iwan is a barn with a rectangular entrance with round arches, which is kept high from the ground. The entrance of the living area to the east of the iwan faces north and this entrance is rectangular in shape with a stone lintel. The living area consists of a rectangular hall and a rectangular room. There are 2 rectangular window openings with stone lintels on the east wall of the room to the east of the hall. On the west wall, there are 2 window openings and niches with eyebrow arches were placed between these windows. The interior of the house is plastered with earth. The second floor is accessed by a staircase located to the east of the ground floor (Picture 2). The second floor consists of a single rectangular space extending in the east-west direction. But later, another rectangular planned section was obtained with the wall built with a craftsmanship suitable for the present day. The interior of the house, which is plastered with cas, has a drop motif made in relief on its eastern façade (Picture 3). (Picture 4) The barrel vaulted dwelling was built with soil in the form of a flat roof. Smooth cut stone and cas mortar were used in the construction of the house.
