KUMLUCA VILLAGE NO. 1 ILLUSTRATED ROCK SHELTER

Illustrated Rock Shelter no. 1 is located 0.25 km southwest of Kumluca village, which is within the borders of Hasankeyf district of Batman province. Kumluca (Mirdese) village is located 21km southeast of Batman city centre, 13.55km west of Hasankeyf town centre.

The illustrated rock shelters that start in the south of the Tigris River are spread over a wide area. A total of five illustrated rock shelters were identified in the rocky area. In the naturally formed rock shelters, the height of the wall on which the depictions are located is 1.50 m and the width is 4.70 m. In the lower part of the rock shelter (?) motifs representing the rock shelter or the mountain and mountain goats are densely located on these motifs. A depiction of a horseman on a mountain goat or horse (?) figure is also present in the composition. All of the figures and motifs are made with scraping technique.
