The remains of the church, which was built on the ruins of the Christian Quarter to the east of the Er-Rızk Mosque, in the center of Hasankeyf district, among the new houses, was discovered during the 2003 archaeological excavations carried out under the scientific consultancy of Prof. Dr. Oluş ARIK. The middle nave, apse and floors of the church, which was largely under collapse, were unearthed.

The surviving architectural texture and ornaments of the church have the form and decoration characteristics of the Christian architecture, which became widespread in the 19th century in Diyarbakır, Mardin, Kars and Ani regions.
