HİSAR TOWN CHURCH

The church is located in Hisar (Hesare) town of Gercüş district of Batman province. Hisar town is located 32.85 km southeast of Batman centre, 15 km northwest of Gercüş district centre.

The church, which is not used today; It is placed on a rectangular area in the east-west direction. The church, which has a three-nave plan, was built with a cradle-toned interior and a flat drop shape with earth from the top (Picture 1). The interior of the church is divided into three naves with two rows of columns placed on piers. However, in the later periods, the arches between the north nave and the middle nave were covered with a stone wall. The apse and pastaforion cells on the east façade and the narthex section on the north have survived to the present day in a ruined condition. The naos area in the middle nave has a rectangular plan in the north-south direction (Picture 2-3). There is a rectangular planned space in the north-south direction to the west of the main space. There are 3 round-arched window openings on the western wall of the space and rectangular niches under these openings (Picture 4). Cut stone, rubble stone, smooth cut stone, spolia material and cas mortar were used in the building.
