AKARCA HAMLET CISTERNS

The cisterns are located within the borders of Akarca (Aynmalut) hamlet of Ardıçlı village of Gercüş district of Batman province. The cisterns carved into the bedrock are generally filled with the accumulation of rain water, with narrow mouths, cylindrical bodies and their interiors expanding towards the base. The cisterns, numbered from east to west, have been largely destroyed and lost their functions because they are not used today.

The mouth diameter of the cistern 1 is 0.47m x 0.54m. The mouth of the cistern, whose current depth is 1.63 m, was plastered with concrete (Picture 1). The diameter of the mouth of the cistern 2 is 0.56m x 0.82m, and its depth from the existing ground is 0.97m (Picture 2).

The diameter of the mouth of the cistern 3 is 1.25m x 1.30m and its current depth is 3.20m (Picture 3).
