BAĞLICA VILLAGE CISTERNS

The cisterns are located in the hilly area, which is located within the borders of Gercüş district of Batman province, 600 m north of the village of Bağlıca and is called Keleha Kasre by the local people. Baglica village is located 30km south of Batman center and 20km northwest of Gercüş district center.
On the eastern slope of the rocky area, approximately 20 cisterns were identified in the area terraced to the bedrock. The cisterns found in the settlement area were carved into the bedrock. 11 cisterns were examined in the inventory studies. The cisterns with narrow mouths, cylindrical bodies and their interiors expanding towards the base (Picture 1), (Picture 2) are not used today, so they were filled with rubble stones and most of them were largely destroyed. Channels were made in the rocky areas around the cisterns, which are usually filled with rain water, and the rain water was directed to the cisterns (Picture 3), (Picture 4) There is a cover place around some cisterns (Picture 5) (Picture 6) The mouth diameters of the cisterns are 0.45x0.45 to 0.90. It has a diameter of x0.90m and its current depths vary between 1.50m and 2.00m.
