Gavur Castle is located within the borders of Hasankeyf district of Batman province. The castle settlement is located 1.80 km southeast of Hasankeyf district.
Gavur Castle was built on the southwest slope of the Gavur Valley on a rock that dominates the region. The castle covers an area of approximately 140 m in the east-west direction and 79 m in the north-south direction. Due to its location and structure, this residential area was probably built to monitor the entire area as a front outpost. Gavur Castle is in ruins and very little of it has survived to the present day. The surviving remains are in the form of fortification walls, cisterns, complex and single-spaced rock dwellings sitting on the bedrock on the southwest and southeast slopes of the castle. The fortification wall, located at the southeast end of the castle, is the strongest surviving structure; It is 45m long, 2.80m high and 0.60-0.75m thick. There are 10 crenellated windows on the city wall and limestone rubble stone and cas mortar were used as construction materials. The other fortification structure on the southwest slope of the castle is 40m long, 3.00m high and 0.70m thick on average. There are stone quarries in the castle. On the lower slopes of the castle, out of use cisterns were found.
