Kandil Castle is located within the borders of Bölükkonak village of Kozluk district of Batman province. Bölükkonak village is located 7km northwest of Kozluk district. Kandil Castle, on the other hand, was built on a steep rock, 830 m south of Bölükkonak village, 1328 m above the sea level dominating the region.

Kandil Castle was built on an area measuring 65.00 m east-west and 38.00 m north-south. It is thought that the castle got its name because it was built on the hill known as Kandil Hill in the region. Among the ruins that have survived from the castle, which has been largely destroyed today, there is a part of the fortification wall, which is a defensive structure, a vaulted place and the remains of a cylindrical bastion.

The Vaulted Space is located at the southwest end of the Kandil Castle and is the only structure from the castle that has survived to the present day. At the eastern end of the castle, the best preserved fortification wall is 9.05 m wide, 3.80 m high, and 1.85 – 1.95 m thick. There is a possibly cylindrical bastion at the northern end of the castle, whose exact measurements could not be taken.

Crushed stone, rubble stone and cas mortar were generally used in the construction of the structures in the Kandil Castle. It is found in scattered stones and ceramic pieces that do not form any architectural element on the surface of the castle. Traces of illegal excavations have been found in the castle and there is destruction throughout the castle.
