Mor Kuryakos Monastery, located in Ayrancı village, 18 km from Beşiri town of Batman province, is located on the eastern slope of Kıra Mountain overlooking the Northern Mesopotamian plain, at the farthest point of the Turabdin region, which is considered sacred by Syriac Christians. In the light of the information obtained, the monastery, which was used as an episcopacy center by the Syriac Community for many years in the region, It is estimated that it was built in the AD 5th century and was built in the same period as Deyrulzafaran in Mardin and Mor Gabriel (Deyr'ul Umur) Monastery in Midyat. The monastery, which was used as a religious center, is accepted as the first known monastery of the Batman region and set an example for the construction of later monasteries, both in terms of architecture and the materials and techniques used.
It was established on an area of approximately 2500 square meters and is a 3-storey building with the ground floor extending underground with corridors. There are many adjoining rooms behind the arched buttresses around a closed courtyard with a rectangular plan on the outside and two square plans on the inside. There are 5 inscriptions written in Syriac, at the entrance of the monastery, at the porticoes and at the entrance of the church door.
