Rock residences are located 470 m north of Hasankeyf district center. There are many rock dwellings in the rocky area to the northeast of Hasankeyf Bridge and north of the Tigris River.

Many of the houses were used as animal shelters in the later periods. In these examples, there are animal mangers and troughs carved into the rock. The rock dwellings in the area were built in a way that they overlap from the bottom up. While some rock dwellings are located on the ground; some are higher up. The high rock dwellings are reached by a step system carved into the rock. There are tunnel structures thought to be connected with the residences. The rock houses located throughout the area are divided into two groups as single space and complex rock houses.
